BJP's Allegations on Human Rights in POJK
On Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Pakistan of serious human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), claiming that ordinary citizens are being targeted. The party urged the international community and local political entities in Jammu and Kashmir to speak out against these alleged atrocities. During a press conference, BJP spokesperson Dr. Tahir Chaudhary stated, 'The situation in POJK has deteriorated significantly.'
Call for International Attention
Chaudhary highlighted that innocent civilians, including women and children, are reportedly being targeted by Pakistani security forces, lamenting the silence of international leaders and organizations on this matter. Accompanying him at the press conference was fellow spokesperson Dr. Abhijit Singh Jasrotia. Chaudhary pointed out that videos emerging from POJK show locals appealing for international intervention. He questioned why regional political parties, including the National Conference, People's Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress, have not condemned these incidents.
Demand for Accountability from Political Leaders
He challenged the leaders of these parties, asking why they remain silent on the atrocities faced by the people of POJK. Chaudhary reiterated the BJP's stance that POJK is an integral part of India, asserting that the desire for connection with India is growing among the populace following developmental progress in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted, 'People in POJK openly chant in support of India and express their wish to reconnect with the nation.'
Pakistan's Suppression Tactics
This increasing inclination towards India has reportedly instilled fear within Pakistan's ruling establishment. Chaudhary alleged that Pakistan is attempting to suppress these sentiments by blocking essential supplies such as food and medicine. He emphasized the BJP's commitment to reintegrating POJK into India. Jasrotia recalled events related to the 1947 conflict in Mirpur, accusing that many civilians suffered during the Pakistan-backed tribal attacks.
Recent Violence Against Civilians
He criticized the political leadership of that era regarding decisions made during the conflict. Referring to recent events, he claimed that civilians in POJK are facing violence despite being unarmed. He alleged that the Pakistani army recently shot a young political activist.
Concerns from Kashmiri Religious Leader
According to reports from Srinagar, religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed concern on Friday regarding the situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling for dialogue and respect for rights. Speaking to the congregation during Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, he stated, 'Today, as we gather for prayer, our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters across the Line of Control. We are deeply saddened by the ongoing unrest and tragic loss of lives over the past month and a half.'
Call for Transparent Investigation
He urged for an immediate, fair, and transparent investigation to ascertain the truth. 'We mourn every loss of life, whether it be a civilian protester or a member of the police force. We pray for the swift recovery of all the injured,' he added. He emphasized that both governments on either side of the Line of Control claim to work for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, yet every decision affecting their future should center around the people themselves. 'We are one people, connected through history, family, and culture,' he remarked.
Appeal for Honest Dialogue
Mirwaiz called upon the Pakistani government and the local administration across the Line of Control to engage in sincere discussions with representatives of the Joint Action Committee and individuals from all walks of life.
