Opposition Criticizes New Job Trainee Initiative
On December 2, 2025, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly's winter session commenced with heightened tensions as BJP members protested outside the Vidhan Sabha in Tapovan, Dharamshala. The demonstration was led by Jai Ram Thakur, the Leader of the Opposition, who rallied fellow MLAs against the state's recently implemented Job Trainee Policy.
The protesting legislators displayed placards and chanted slogans, accusing the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu administration of depriving the youth of stable employment opportunities and jeopardizing their futures. Thakur criticized the government for misleading young job seekers by offering two-year trainee positions instead of permanent roles, labeling the policy as exploitative.
He urged the government to retract the policy immediately and prioritize regular job appointments. The ongoing winter session has seen intense debates between the ruling party and the opposition, covering various topics, including employment issues, disaster relief, and financial challenges.
The BJP has condemned the new policy, claiming it forces young candidates into trainee roles with inadequate pay and no job security. The MLAs expressed their outrage, stating that this approach betrays the aspirations of youth who have long awaited stable employment.
