Nitin Nabin Takes Oath in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: On Thursday, Nitin Nabin, the National President of the BJP, officially took his oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

He was among several new members who were sworn in shortly after the commencement of the House proceedings.

This marks Nabin's inaugural term as a Member of Parliament, having been elected to the Rajya Sabha representing Bihar. Alongside him, BJP's Shivesh Kumar and JD-U's Ramnath Thakur, also elected from Bihar, took their oaths.

From Assam, BJP representatives Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan, along with UPPL's Pramod Boro, were sworn in. In Haryana, BJP's Sanjay Bhatia and Congress's Karamvir Singh Boddh took their oaths. Telangana saw Congress leaders Vem Narendra Reddy and Abhishek Manu Singhvi being sworn in, while Himachal Pradesh's Anurag Sharma from Congress also took the oath.

From Maharashtra, BJP's Vinod Tawde; from Odisha, BJP's Sujit Kumar; and from Chhattisgarh, BJP's Lakshmi Verma and Congress's Phulodevi Netam were also sworn in as Rajya Sabha members.

Later, the House paid tribute to the legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who recently passed away, along with former MP and Union Minister Mohsina Kidwai.

Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan informed the members about Asha Bhosle's remarkable career, which spanned over eight decades, during which she lent her voice to thousands of songs. She received numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards. Bhosle passed away on April 12 at the age of 92.

The House was also informed of Kidwai's passing on April 8 at the age of 94. She had served two full terms in the Rajya Sabha representing Chhattisgarh and was born on January 1, 1932, in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district.

With a public service career spanning nearly sixty years, Kidwai held positions in the UP Assembly and Legislative Council, as well as in both Houses of Parliament. She also served as a minister both in UP and at the national level, earning recognition for her efforts to uplift marginalized communities.

Her passing was mourned as a significant loss to the nation, with the House acknowledging both Asha Bhosle and Mohsina Kidwai's contributions as an irreparable loss. Members then observed a moment of silence to honor their memories.
