BJP's Strategic Meeting in Kolkata
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a high-level meeting in Kolkata on Saturday. The primary objective of this gathering is to assess the party's preparations ahead of the vote counting scheduled for May 4, which is crucial for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. During this meeting, the party leadership will evaluate booth-level management and coordination to ensure a smooth electoral process. Additionally, they will finalize their strategy and operational plans for the 'D-Day' on May 4.
Instructions for Party Leaders
According to reports from a news agency, all 'migrant' leaders deployed during the election campaign, including Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), have been instructed to attend this meeting. These leaders were assigned significant responsibilities in various constituencies and will provide detailed feedback and updates from their respective areas.
Exit Poll Predictions
Exit Poll Insights
In West Bengal, where voting took place in two phases on April 23 and 29, most exit polls indicate a favorable outcome for the BJP. These predictions suggest that the BJP is likely to secure a clear lead over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC). However, some exit polls also forecast a potential victory for the TMC.
According to the 'Matrize' exit poll estimates, the BJP is projected to win between 146 to 161 seats, while the TMC is expected to secure around 125 to 140 seats. Other parties may also capture 6 to 10 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly.
BJP's Optimism and PM Modi's Remarks
The BJP is buoyed by the exit poll forecasts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that he will visit West Bengal again for the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP's new Chief Minister.
Mamata Banerjee's Confidence
Mamata's Assurance of Victory
Despite the exit polls showing a lead for the BJP, Mamata Banerjee remains confident about her victory and a fourth consecutive term in office. In a video message released on Thursday, she urged TMC workers and leaders to maintain a vigilant watch over the 'strong room' where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored. She alleged that the BJP might attempt to tamper with the machines before the counting begins.
She has also dismissed the exit poll predictions, asserting, 'We will surpass the figure of 226. We might even reach 230. I have complete faith in how the people have voted.'
Expressing gratitude to the voters, she said, 'Despite the intense heat and numerous hardships, the way you stood in line to cast your votes— we are grateful to you. I also thank my workers who fought with all their strength and endured a lot of oppression. Those who tried to suppress Bengal have themselves been suppressed in the ballot box.'
