SILCHAR, Sept 5: As the nomination phase for the inaugural Silchar Municipal Corporation election commences, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia visited the city on Friday to evaluate the party's readiness and motivate its leaders and grassroots members for the upcoming electoral contest.

In a media interaction, Saikia emphasized that the primary aim of his visit was to gauge the party's election strategies and engage with the leaders and workers tasked with executing the campaign.

“Our main focus here is to discuss the election and assess our preparations. We will engage with our leaders and workers to strategize on advancing the party's campaign,” he stated.

Highlighting Silchar's development as a key aspect of the BJP's electoral message, the State party president noted that the government has already initiated various projects for the city, with more development plans on the horizon.

He asserted that the party's development agenda aims to benefit all segments of the city's population.

“Our objective is to promote the progress and welfare of individuals from every section of society. We aspire for Silchar to evolve into a developed, secure, and inclusive city,” he remarked.

Saikia characterized the upcoming election as a pivotal moment in Silchar's civic history, as residents will elect their representatives to the Municipal Corporation for the first time following the city's civic body upgrade.

Encouraging the city's electorate of over two lakh to participate actively, the BJP president urged every eligible voter to exercise their democratic rights and play a role in shaping Silchar's future.

Saikia's visit, accompanied by BJP central observer and seasoned organizational leader GR Ravindra Raju, along with minister Kaushik Rai, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajya Sabha MPs Kanad Purkayastha and Sushmita Dev, Silchar MLA Dr Rajdeep Roy, Udharbond MLA Rajdeep Goala, and BJP district president Rupam Saha, is anticipated to invigorate the election atmosphere in the city.

The presence of these senior leaders is significant as the BJP ramps up its organizational efforts and devises ward-level strategies for the civic body elections. The party leadership is expected to conduct thorough discussions with local officials and workers as the candidate selection process enters a critical stage.

The Silchar Municipal Corporation consists of 42 wards and has an electorate exceeding 2.70 lakh. Voting for the inaugural Corporation election is set for October 3, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 6.
