Criticism of Congress's Role in 1968 Agreement

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey expressed his disapproval on Saturday regarding the Congress party's involvement in the 1968 agreement, which resulted in India conceding 828 square kilometers of the Rann of Kutch to Pakistan despite India's victory in the 1965 Indo-Pak war. Dubey accused the Congress, under Indira Gandhi's leadership, of agreeing to international mediation, leading to the loss of Indian territory to Pakistan.

He referenced a document claiming that this decision was made following an international tribunal under the United Nations, where India appointed Yugoslavian representative Ales Babler. Dubey took to social media, stating that the narrative is quite painful. He noted that after winning the 1965 war, the Congress party handed over 828 square kilometers of the Rann of Kutch to Pakistan in 1968. He emphasized that India brought the issue to an international platform, appointed a mediator, and faced opposition from the entire Parliament, yet Indira Gandhi, known as the Iron Lady, auctioned off Indian territory out of fear. This reflects the true nature of the Iron Lady, with Congress always siding with Pakistan.

Amid renewed political discussions on national security and leadership, the Congress party frequently references the legacy of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, particularly highlighting her decisive role during hostilities with Pakistan. In various public statements, Congress leaders have remembered Indira Gandhi as a strong and resolute leader known for making tough decisions during crises. The party had previously displayed posters outside its headquarters with slogans like 'It’s not easy to be Indira' and 'India misses Indira.'
