Call for District Status in Nurpur

Sudhanshu Sharma, a BJP MLA representing Nurpur, has appealed to the Himachal Pradesh Government to prioritize Nurpur in its plans for establishing new districts. During a press conference, he emphasized that given the area's geographical challenges, extensive size, and administrative needs of Kangra district, Nurpur is deserving of district designation.

Nikka pointed out that Nurpur functions as a crucial administrative and commercial center for nearby areas such as Bhattiyat, Jawali, Indora, and Fatehpur. Many residents from remote locations must spend an entire day traveling to the district headquarters for official matters. Granting district status to Nurpur would facilitate easier access to administrative services, ultimately saving time and resources for the populace.

The MLA noted that the request for Nurpur's district status has been a long-standing issue. He recalled that the previous Dhumal administration had set up an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Office in Nurpur back in 2003, which was later shut down following a change in government.

Nikka highlighted the existing administrative infrastructure in Nurpur, which includes a Revenue District Headquarters, a Superintendent of Police (SP) Office, two Sessions Courts, a district-level Forensic Office, an RTO Office, a District Maternal and Child Hospital, and MS Nurpur Hospital. These facilities bolster the argument for granting district status to Nurpur.

He also mentioned that Nurpur borders two other states, making it a strategically significant area. To effectively combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities, a robust administrative and policing framework is crucial. The establishment of the SP Office in Nurpur during the previous Jai Ram government was aimed at addressing these concerns.

Nikka stressed the importance of district-level administrative leadership and sufficient resources to ensure improved law enforcement, border security, and effective governance in the region.

The MLA urged the state government to take the long-standing public demand seriously and assess the proposal for district status for Nurpur, considering its geographical importance, existing administrative framework, and the convenience it would provide to the public.
