BJP Leaders to Meet Assam Governor for Government Formation
BJP's Upcoming Meeting with Assam Governor
Leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are scheduled to meet with Assam's Governor, Laxman Prasad Acharya, on Sunday morning to discuss the formation of the new government in the northeastern state. According to officials, this meeting is set to take place at Lok Bhawan around 11:15 AM.
During this meeting, discussions will focus on matters related to the establishment of the new government.
The NDA is expected to present its claim to form the government, with the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) as its coalition partners. The NDA has secured a two-thirds majority in the Assam Assembly elections, marking its third consecutive term in power.
Out of the 126 assembly seats, the BJP won 82, while its allies, AGP and BPF, each claimed 10 seats. A BJP spokesperson mentioned that prior to the meeting with the governor, party legislators and their allies will convene in the morning.
The spokesperson added, "BJP legislators will gather at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Sunday morning to elect a new leader for the legislative party. Central Minister J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will attend as central observers and co-observers, respectively." The AGP, which has already held a meeting with its newly elected legislators, has proposed Himanta Biswa Sarma's name for the chief minister position.
