Murder of BJP Leader's Assistant Sparks Outrage

Following the tragic murder of his assistant, Chandranath Rath, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari expressed his belief that the killing was directly linked to Rath's role as his executive assistant and Adhikari's victory over Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur. He emphasized that he would fulfill all his responsibilities in the wake of this incident.

The body of Chandranath Rath was transported from the hospital in Madhyagram to his residence. During this somber occasion, Adhikari stated that no amount of condemnation would suffice for such a heinous act. He reiterated that Rath was targeted due to their association and his electoral success against Banerjee, which he believes could be the motive behind the murder. Adhikari expressed solidarity with Rath's family, who are demanding the arrest and punishment of those responsible. An autopsy revealed that Rath had been shot four times, indicating that the murder was premeditated.

Earlier in the day, Adhikari expressed confidence in the investigation into Rath's murder, stating that authorities were making progress. He visited the Barasat hospital where the autopsy was conducted. Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, he mentioned that the police were actively working on the case. He had spoken with the DGP, who indicated that they had some leads and had detained several individuals. Adhikari expressed optimism that the police would apprehend the attackers, noting that the CID, forensic teams, and SIT were all engaged in the investigation. He also suggested that the police had previously faced obstacles in resolving cases, indirectly criticizing the TMC government.

When questioned about the TMC's call for a CBI investigation into the murder, Adhikari dismissed their relevance, asserting that the police would resolve the matter. Senior BJP leaders, including Samik Bhattacharya and Rahul Sinha, also visited the hospital. According to police sources, the driver of the car targeted by Rath's assailants is in critical condition. A senior hospital official reported that Budhadev Bera, who was driving Rath's vehicle, sustained gunshot wounds and has undergone multiple surgeries.
