BJP Leader Predicts TMC's Opposition Role in West Bengal Assembly Elections
BJP's Vision for West Bengal
Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent leader of the BJP, expressed his belief that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will find itself in the opposition following the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. He indicated that the ongoing Special Investigation Report (SIR) process serves as a precursor to the election results. Adhikari assured that if the BJP secures power in Bengal, it will introduce improved welfare schemes for the public. He refuted claims made by the TMC that the BJP would terminate the 'Lokkhir Bhondar' scheme, which provides financial assistance to women under the Mamata Banerjee government.
While addressing a public gathering in Malda district, Adhikari stated that the TMC would transition to an opposition party by April. The assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled to take place within the first half of this year. He noted that the vote difference between the TMC and BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was merely 4 million. Furthermore, he highlighted that 5.8 million names have already been removed from the draft voter list published in the ongoing SIR.
Adhikari also mentioned the potential visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malda after Makar Sankranti. He pointed out that despite opposition from TMC leaders, the Waqf (Amendment) Act has been implemented in the state. Adhikari remarked that Mamata Banerjee had previously claimed this act would not be enforced, yet it has been enacted. He accused the TMC leadership of engaging in divisive politics and appeasing Muslims for votes, asserting that the BJP seeks peace in the state.
The BJP leader emphasized that the party aims to transform Bengal into an industrial hub akin to Gujarat and to establish governance similar to that of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He further claimed that the TMC is falsely accusing the central government of withholding funds for housing and MGNREGA schemes, stating that the money allocated for these initiatives has been misappropriated by unauthorized beneficiaries.
