BJP Leader Criticizes Himachal Pradesh Government Over Healthcare Scheme Cuts
BJP's Bikram Thakur Condemns Healthcare Policy Changes
In Dharamshala, former Industries Minister and BJP member Bikram Thakur has launched a fierce critique of the Himachal Pradesh government, accusing the Congress party of undermining the state's vital health security initiative, Himcare, which he claims is depriving the underprivileged of their healthcare rights.
Thakur asserted that a recent notification from Tanda Medical College indicates that the government is eroding essential health entitlements for the poor, middle class, and vulnerable patients. He noted that individuals holding Himcare cards are now compelled to pay substantial amounts out of their own pockets.
He highlighted that the government has ceased reimbursement for medications, imposed charges for MRI, CT scans, X-rays, and lab tests, and eliminated the provision of free medicines post-hospital admission. Thakur stated, “This clearly shows the Congress government is not helping the poor but looting their pockets,”.
Moreover, he claimed that despite the Chief Minister's assertions of enhancements in health services, the reality is that patients in public hospitals are receiving bills instead of care. Families who relied on Himcare for financial assistance during critical health issues now feel deceived.
Thakur accused the administration of imposing higher taxes, expensive electricity and water, and now costly healthcare. He cautioned that limiting Himcare's benefits at Tanda Medical College, the largest government health facility in the state, will lead to a significant crisis for patients from rural areas.
Describing the decision as “anti-people and inhumane,” Thakur called for an immediate reversal of all reductions to the Himcare program, urging the reinstatement of medicines, tests, and other health services under its umbrella. He affirmed that the BJP is committed to supporting the poor, farmers, workers, employees, and needy families, and warned that if the Congress government does not restore Himcare, the party will initiate a statewide public movement to hold the government accountable.
