BJP Leader Annamalai Urges High Voter Turnout Amid Election Concerns in Coimbatore

Annamalai Calls for Voter Participation

K. Annamalai, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former state president in Tamil Nadu, expressed his concerns regarding the electoral process in Coimbatore South. After casting his vote at the PSG College of Arts and Science polling station, he urged voters to participate in large numbers. Annamalai stated that he firmly believes the election process in Coimbatore South is compromised, yet he acknowledged the Election Commission's efforts in conducting the elections.


He emphasized the importance of supporting the Election Commission, stating, 'It is our duty to back the commission today.' Annamalai expressed hope that citizens would come out in significant numbers to vote, noting that the electoral process has been tainted in various parts of the state over the past few days. He questioned whether the Election Commission had adequately prepared for the elections, mentioning that they had made personal requests for further action as a coalition.


As of Thursday morning, Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 17.69% by 9 AM, with Tiruppur district leading at 20.38%. Chennai saw a turnout of 16.51%, while Erode recorded 19.55%. Voting for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal commenced under tight security, with polls closing at 6 PM.


The elections in Tamil Nadu are being held in a single phase, while West Bengal will conduct voting in two phases, with the second phase scheduled for April 29. The counting of votes is set for May 4. Tamil Nadu's elections involve 234 assembly seats, with the main contest expected between the DMK-led alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, which comprises the BJP and PMK.
