Guwahati, Oct 7: The Assam chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) initiated the "Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra" on Wednesday, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years in public service, alongside party units nationwide.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with State BJP president Dilip Saikia and party members, participated in the event held at Jyoti-Bishnu Kala Mandir in Guwahati.
During his speech, Sarma reflected on Modi's rise to the position of Gujarat chief minister on October 7, 2001, emphasizing the BJP's decision to appoint him during a challenging period following the Bhuj earthquake.
Sarma noted that Modi focused on Gujarat's progress and served as chief minister until 2014, when he took on the role of leading the nation.
“This day marks a significant milestone,” Sarma stated, acknowledging Modi's 25 years of leadership, first in Gujarat and then as Prime Minister.
In a prior social media update, Sarma expressed that Modi's journey from Gujarat to Delhi serves as an inspiration, highlighting his commitment to the nation, vision for progress, and empathy towards citizens.
Sarma also pointed out the BJP's electoral success in Assam and across the country, claiming the party has secured approximately 75% of elections, from municipal to gram panchayat levels.
“In Assam, the BJP has achieved power for the third consecutive time. Nationally, the BJP government has been re-elected for its first, second, and third terms,” Sarma remarked.
He emphasized that the party's victories span beyond Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, including local bodies like Zilla Parishads and municipal corporations.
“The recent results from the Silchar municipal elections reaffirm this,” he added.
Saikia mentioned that the event provided an opportunity for BJP members and the public to express their appreciation for Modi's 25 years of service.
“His leadership fills us with pride. Every Indian feels proud,” Saikia stated.
He further noted that Modi's leadership as Gujarat chief minister and Prime Minister has been driven by the vision of creating a "united, self-reliant, well-governed, and developed India."
The Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra is part of the BJP's month-long "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" to honor Modi's 25 years in public service.
Following Modi's address at the "Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha" in New Delhi on Wednesday, party leaders ignited a symbolic "Seva Jyot," representing the flame of service.
Processions carrying the flame in sacred vessels commenced from designated locations, accompanied by cycle and motorcycle rallies in some areas.
The BJP stated that the yatra aims to spread the message of development and the commitment to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, while celebrating Modi's journey from Gujarat chief minister to Prime Minister.
