BJP Launches Nationwide Campaign for Guru Ravidas's 650th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, July 27 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled a nationwide initiative lasting seven months to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas. The party aims to spread his message of social harmony to every village across the country. During a press conference, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh announced that the year of the anniversary will be celebrated as the Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj Samarasata Sankalp Campaign.
Campaign Timeline and Events
This campaign will kick off on July 29, coinciding with Guru Purnima, and will continue until February 20, 2027. Chugh mentioned that the inaugural event will take place on July 28, featuring the worship of 131 pots filled with soil from the birthplace of Guru Ravidas in Varanasi. Following the worship on July 29, a grand procession will be held.
Key Participants and Activities
These sacred pots will be sent off by BJP President Nitin Naveen, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary, and other senior leaders. Chugh emphasized that through this campaign, the teachings of Guru Ravidas, particularly his vision of a society free from suffering, will reach every village and household. Between July 29 and September 10, the pots will be distributed to 21,000 locations nationwide.
Celebrations and Outreach
On Guru Purnima, a festival of lights will be celebrated in 51,000 temples. Additionally, a historic lighting ceremony will take place at the Ganga ghats in Varanasi, attended by Yogi Adityanath and Nitin Naveen. Chugh reiterated that the vision of a society free from pain and anxiety, as envisioned by Guru Ravidas, will be shared widely.
Engagement with Religious Leaders
To facilitate this, the BJP will engage extensively with religious speakers, storytellers, kirtan groups, and devotional singers across the country. From July 29 to January 15, BJP workers and leaders will promote Guru Ravidas's teachings by meeting with saints and religious figures. Furthermore, a month-long journey from Jalandhar to Varanasi will be organized from October 5 to November 5.
Nationwide Journey Details
Chugh explained that this nationwide journey will commence from Jalandhar and will traverse through Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, concluding at the birthplace of Guru Ravidas in Varanasi.
