BJP Intensifies Campaign in Assam Ahead of Assembly Elections
Political Activity Escalates in Assam
Margherita, Mar 29: As the Assam Assembly elections approach, political engagement has surged across various constituencies, particularly with the BJP amplifying its efforts in Upper Assam.
In a significant display of support, the party hosted a large rally at the Ledo Bazaar High School ground on Sunday, where BJP national president Nitin Nabin addressed a substantial crowd in favor of Margherita's candidate and current MLA, Bhaskar Sharma.
Nabin received a warm welcome upon his arrival, accompanied by senior party officials at the event.
During his speech, Nabin criticized the Opposition, specifically targeting the Congress for what he termed years of 'vote bank politics' and insufficient development.
“We must not forget the dark times. Development was never a topic of discussion then; only violence and protests were mentioned,” he recalled, reflecting on his visits to Assam since 2009-10.
He contrasted the past with the current situation, asserting that the state has undergone remarkable changes since the BJP assumed power in 2016.
“Today, there is a palpable wave of development throughout Assam. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state has experienced peace, stability, and progress,” Nabin stated.
Expressing confidence ahead of the elections, he asserted that the BJP is ready to secure a third consecutive term.
“We initially formed the government under Sarbananda Sonowal, followed by Himanta Biswa Sarma. This time, we will establish our third government under CM Sarma's leadership,” he declared.
Emphasizing the importance of Bhaskar Sharma's re-election, Nabin urged voters to grant him a decisive mandate, highlighting that consistent leadership is crucial for ongoing development in Margherita.
“Sharma has gained the people's trust through his efforts. For the comprehensive development of Margherita, it is vital that he is re-elected with a significant margin,” he added.
Nabin also addressed national security and illegal immigration issues, asserting that the BJP government prioritizes the welfare of Assam's residents and the nation.
He further emphasized welfare programs and development initiatives, claiming that Assam has become a land of opportunities under BJP governance.
Chhattisgarh's Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also participated in the campaign, enhancing the BJP's outreach in the constituency.
The polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly is set for April 9, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
