BJP Completes Seat Sharing Negotiations

Guwahati, March 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has confirmed that it has successfully concluded discussions regarding seat sharing with its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

During a press briefing on Wednesday evening, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that talks were held with significant regional partners such as the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), and the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Committee to finalize the allocation of seats for the forthcoming elections.

Sarma stated, “We have wrapped up our negotiations with AGP, BPF, and the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Committee. As far as the NDA is concerned, our discussions and negotiations regarding seat sharing are now complete.”

He emphasized that the final decision will be disclosed only after receiving the endorsement from the BJP's Central Parliamentary Board.

“The consensus reached among the alliance partners must be presented to our Central Parliamentary Board for approval. Once that is done, we will make a formal announcement regarding the seat-sharing arrangement, which may take about two to four days,” the Chief Minister noted.

This announcement comes at a crucial time politically, as three suspended Congress MLAs—Kamalkhya De Purkayastha, Basanta Das, and Sashikant Das—have officially joined the BJP.

Sarma welcomed the new members, stating that their inclusion is a significant advantage for the BJP and indicative of the party's increasing support in Assam.

“Today marks an important milestone for the BJP. The joining of three Congress MLAs signifies the rising popularity of our party throughout Assam,” he remarked.

He further added, “This development also reflects the trust and confidence that the public has in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government.”

The anticipated formal announcement regarding the seat-sharing arrangement is expected to clarify the NDA's electoral strategy in Assam in the coming days.
