BJP Files Complaint Against TMC Leader for Provocative Remarks: What’s at Stake?
BJP Takes Action Against TMC's Kalyan Banerjee
Kolkata: On Sunday, the West Bengal branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Kalyan Banerjee, a senior advocate and four-time Lok Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The BJP accused him of making 'inciteful, derogatory, hateful, and provocative statements' that breach the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
In their complaint addressed to Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the BJP claimed that Banerjee's remarks were directed at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, particularly in response to Shah's announcement of a 15-day stay in the state.
To substantiate their claims, the BJP included a video clip showcasing Banerjee's controversial comments.
The complaint emphasized that Banerjee's statements are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of provocative rhetoric from TMC leaders. It suggested that this behavior is a calculated strategy aimed at inciting hostility and creating an atmosphere of fear and division, particularly against Amit Shah.
The BJP's leadership argued that Banerjee's comments reflect a systemic disregard for the MCC, allegedly sanctioned by TMC's higher-ups.
In their letter, the BJP urged the Commission to hold Banerjee accountable for violating the MCC and to take immediate action to remove the contentious video from public access.
Additionally, they requested the Commission to impose strict penalties on Banerjee and other TMC officials to prevent further inflammatory statements and to initiate legal proceedings against him.
