Initial Trends Indicate BJP's Optimism

As the counting of votes for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections commenced, a palpable excitement has emerged within the ranks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Early on Monday morning, Samik Bhattacharya, the president of the BJP's state unit, expressed his belief that the party is on the verge of making history by forming the government in West Bengal for the first time.

The counting process for the 293 assembly seats began at 8 AM. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is striving to return to power for a fourth consecutive term, while the BJP aims to establish its government in the state.

Statements from BJP Leaders

Speaking outside a counting center in Kolkata, Bhattacharya stated, "The people of the state have already rejected the TMC government, and within a few hours, the results will confirm that the public has turned against Mamata Banerjee in this battle."

Dilip Ghosh, the BJP candidate from Khargpur Sadar, claimed that voters have opted for change. He mentioned in a video, "The counting will proceed just as the voting did. The people have voted for a new government."

Arjun Singh, another BJP candidate from Noapara, asserted that this election will pave the way for transformation, expressing confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious.

Current Status of Vote Counting

Vote counting is ongoing at 77 centers across the state since 8 AM. BJP leaders are optimistic that as the figures from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are revealed following the postal ballots, the party's lead will become more evident. The party has instructed all its workers to remain vigilant at the counting centers and closely monitor each round of counting.

While the TMC has accused the administration of mismanagement, the statements from BJP leaders indicate their strong confidence in the results.
