BJP Expels Nine Leaders Ahead of Assam Assembly Elections

In a decisive move, the BJP has expelled nine leaders for running against its officially nominated candidates in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The expelled leaders include notable figures from various constituencies. Additionally, further disciplinary measures have been enacted against party workers accused of supporting rival candidates. Disciplinary Action by BJP in Assam

In a significant disciplinary move ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially expelled nine leaders for contesting against the party's nominated candidates. The expelled members include Uddhav Das (Barpeta LAC), Jayant Kumar Das (Dispur LAC), Jitendra Singh Gour (Kaliyabor LAC), Amalendu Das (Barkhola LAC), Dhanjit Rabha (Goalpara West LAC), Chakradhar Das (Bongaigaon LAC), Gagan Chandra Haloi (Barpeta LAC), Ankur Das (Kamrup LAC), and Yashoda Dulal (Shyamal) Rakshit (Lumding LAC).


Official Statement from BJP

In a letter dated March 27, state BJP president Dilip Saikia stated that this action was taken in accordance with the party's constitutional provisions. The letter indicated that for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the BJP has expelled the aforementioned party workers for contesting against officially nominated candidates, effective immediately. This decision was made under Article XXV-9 of the party's constitution.


Further Disciplinary Measures

The notification was issued by Anup Barman, the state general secretary of BJP Assam. Additionally, following directives from state leadership, six party workers have been removed from primary membership for allegedly supporting or assisting candidates contesting against BJP nominees. This disciplinary action comes at a crucial time as voting for the Assam Assembly elections is scheduled for April 9, with counting set for May 4. Political parties across the state are ramping up their election campaigns.
