BJP's Strong Response to Rahul Gandhi's Comments
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce critique against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, accusing him of making unfounded statements against the central government during a Lok Sabha debate concerning the anti-paper leak bill. Addressing a press conference, BJP's national spokesperson Sambit Patra highlighted Gandhi's use of the term 'fool' during the discussion, asserting that no student should be labeled as foolish or a blind follower.
Patra emphasized that the BJP has shown respect for students and their concerns by implementing stringent laws to prevent paper leaks, while alleging that Gandhi disrespected them in his speech. He claimed that previous governments failed to address the issue of exam paper leaks before 2014, stating that the problem persisted from independence until 2014. The Modi administration, he noted, has strengthened the anti-paper leak legislation.
Referring to the controversy surrounding Gandhi's repeated use of the term 'idiot' during his speech, Patra mentioned that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju repeatedly reminded the Congress leader that such language is not permitted under parliamentary rules. Patra stated that Rijiju showed the rulebook multiple times, clarifying that the term 'idiot' is considered unparliamentary and should not be used. Nevertheless, Gandhi continued to use the term, disregarding the rules.
Targeting the opposition leader, Patra accused him of misleading the Parliament and using inappropriate language for a member of the house. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi lied in the house and employed unparliamentary language. The BJP leader also dismissed Gandhi's claim that Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordered firing during student protests at the Parliament march, stating that Gandhi had no evidence to support his allegations against the Home Minister.
Countering the Congress leader's assertions, Patra stated that no shots were fired during police action. He refuted Gandhi's claim that shots were fired during protests at Jantar Mantar, labeling it as false. He accused Rahul Gandhi of making politically motivated allegations, noting that the Home Minister was present in Parliament while Congress MPs were speaking.
