BJP Calls for Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's Resignation After Violent Incident
Demand for Resignation Amid Rising Violence
On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, citing a significant breakdown of law and order in the state following the fatal shooting of a village sarpanch affiliated with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party during a wedding in Amritsar.
According to police reports, Jharmal Singh, a resident of Valthoha village in Tarn Taran district, was attending a wedding when unidentified assailants shot him in the forehead at close range. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala shared CCTV footage of the incident on the social media platform X, stating, 'The horrifying video of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch's murder in broad daylight in Amritsar is shocking. There is no greater shamelessness than this in Punjab. Criminals are completely unafraid of the law and do not even hide their faces.'
He further accused the AAP government of failing to maintain law and order in Punjab. Poonawala insisted on Mann's resignation, questioning the state of affairs in Punjab, from the murder of Sidhu Moosewala to grenade attacks, drug trafficking, and gang wars. He remarked, 'While Super CM Kejriwal enjoys a convoy of 100 vehicles, the people of Punjab have to endure this chaos.'
