BJP Begins Drafting Election Manifesto for Assam Assembly Elections 2026
BJP Launches Public Consultation for Election Manifesto
Guwahati, Jan 10: As the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approach, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially commenced the drafting of its election manifesto by soliciting input from the public.
This initiative was unveiled at the BJP's state headquarters in Guwahati by Dilip Saikia, the party's state president, marking the start of discussions for the party's Sankalp Patra ahead of the crucial elections.
Under the banner of “Raijor Akankha–BJP’r Protishruti”, this campaign aims to gather the hopes and expectations of Assam's residents, which will be incorporated into the manifesto to be released closer to the election date.
During his address to party members, Saikia mentioned that a specialized committee would evaluate each suggestion received from the public.
“Starting today, our committee will meticulously review public contributions regarding the state's development over the next five years and how we can implement our promises. Wherever possible, these suggestions will be included in the manifesto,” he stated.
The launch event saw the presence of Election Management Committee convenor and MP Pradan Barua, along with ministers Ranjit Kumar Das and Dr. Ranoj Pegu, who are also convenors of the Sankalp Patra Drafting Committee.
To enhance public participation, the BJP has established various channels for feedback, including dedicated phone lines, email submissions, and the BJP Assam Sankalp website, inviting citizens statewide to share their opinions.
“You can give a missed call to 7002126126 and submit suggestions through the link you receive. Visit http://bjpassamsankalp2026.com to provide your input online,” Saikia added.
This initiative coincides with efforts from the main opposition party, Congress, which launched its outreach campaign, “Raijor Podulit, Raijor Dal”, on December 6, 2025.
The Congress aims to create a people-focused manifesto through consultations across all 35 districts of Assam.
In contrast to the BJP's digital and telephonic outreach, Congress has chosen a door-to-door approach, with party members visiting homes to gather direct feedback from voters.
During a press conference in Chirang district within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) on Sunday, Assam's Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, emphasized that the Congress views its manifesto as a genuine political commitment rather than just a campaign tool.
“Election manifestos are often dismissed by leaders like Amit Shah as mere ‘jumlas’ designed to attract voters. The Congress does not regard its manifesto in that light. We take it seriously,” Saikia remarked.
He also noted that the party has implemented QR codes and suggestion boxes throughout districts to facilitate public input on their concerns and aspirations.
With both major parties intensifying their outreach efforts, the political contest for Assam's narrative leading up to the 2026 elections is clearly gaining traction.
