BJP and TIPRA Motha Party Set for Key Meeting on Electoral Alliance

High-Level Discussions Planned in New Delhi

Agartala, Aug 8: A significant meeting between the BJP and the TIPRA Motha Party is anticipated to take place in New Delhi this weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday (August 9). This meeting aims to discuss a potential electoral collaboration for the upcoming village council elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), as reported by sources within TIPRA Motha.

Sources revealed that a private meeting occurred in Shillong on Wednesday, attended by TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma and other senior party officials, to finalize the agenda for the discussions in the capital.

During this meeting, the leadership reportedly reached a preliminary agreement to consider forming an electoral alliance with the BJP for the village council elections.

However, it has been noted that TIPRA Motha intends to present specific conditions before consenting to any seat-sharing deal. The party's foremost demand is the execution of the commitments outlined in the tripartite agreement signed in New Delhi involving the Centre, the Tripura Government, and TIPRA Motha.

Insiders from the party suggest that the leadership will also advocate for changes within the State Cabinet. Additionally, various organizational and political matters are expected to be raised during the upcoming meeting with BJP leaders.

It is anticipated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national general secretary (organization) BL Santosh, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will attend the meeting. From TIPRA Motha, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma are expected to represent the party in these discussions.

In preparation for the talks, TIPRA Motha leaders have started gathering in New Delhi, with MLA Ranjit Debbarma arriving in the capital on August 6.

The village council elections under the TTAADC are set to occur in September, marking the first such elections in nearly nine years, following the resolution of a lengthy legal dispute in the Supreme Court.

If the meeting proceeds as planned, it could significantly impact the political dynamics leading up to the elections. The results of these discussions may greatly affect the future of the BJP-TIPRA Motha alliance and shape the electoral strategies of both parties in the tribal areas of Tripura.
