Corruption Allegations Rock Punjab Government

New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of corruption related to the transfer and posting of government officials, urging him to step down to allow for an unbiased investigation.

During a press briefing at the BJP headquarters, spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia claimed that a cash-for-transfer scheme is being orchestrated in Punjab under Mann's direction.

The Punjab government and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have yet to respond to these allegations.

Bhatia further asserted that the Punjab police are failing to file any FIRs regarding the matter, allegedly to shield those implicated, despite multiple requests from the Enforcement Directorate. He called for a CBI investigation into the claims.

According to Bhatia, the transfer and posting of senior IAS and IPS officials in Punjab are being conducted based on a 'rate card,' a fact that has emerged during the Enforcement Directorate's inquiry. He suggested that Mann's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) is involved in this scandal.

He questioned whether an OSD could manage the transfer of over 20 IAS and IPS officers without the Chief Minister's knowledge, stating that such actions would be impossible without Mann's consent.

Bhatia reiterated the demand for Mann's immediate resignation, asserting that a thorough investigation can only occur once he steps down.
