The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has instructed its units in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Goa to ramp up preparations for the upcoming elections. Sources indicate that this decision is driven by indications that assembly elections in these states may occur earlier than expected, avoiding a clash with the census process scheduled for February 2027. Additionally, the BJP is closely monitoring the situation in Manipur, which is the fifth state where elections are anticipated early next year alongside others.

However, sporadic incidents of violence in the state—stemming from the earlier 2023 Kuki-Meitei conflict and the recent escalation of the Kuki-Naga struggle—may lead to a postponement of elections. Discussions are ongoing regarding the possibility of conducting elections a few weeks or months earlier than planned, as the census and voting processes will require the involvement of various personnel, including teachers and government employees.
