BJD Suspends Two MLAs Over Allegations of Anti-Party Activities
BJD Takes Action Against Two Legislators
The opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has suspended two of its members, Arvind Mohapatra and Sanatan Mahakud, on Thursday, citing their involvement in 'anti-party activities' and labeling them as 'corrupt and traitorous.'
However, the party did not clarify the specific nature of the alleged anti-party activities conducted by Mohapatra, who represents Patkura in Kendrapara district, and Mahakud, who serves the Champua constituency in Keonjhar district.
According to an order signed by Naveen Patnaik, the two legislators have been suspended from the BJD with immediate effect due to their involvement in activities against the party.
Mohanty stated, 'Following due process, both have been suspended from the party with immediate effect.' He added that party workers across the state have welcomed this decision.
Mohapatra, who was elected for the first time and joined BJD about 18 months before the 2024 assembly elections, expressed surprise at his suspension. He mentioned that he learned about the decision through social media and was unaware of the allegations against him.
He stated, 'If necessary, I would like to meet with the BJD president.' Mahakud, on the other hand, expressed that he was not surprised by the action. After being elected as an independent candidate in 2014, he joined BJD and won in the 2024 assembly elections.
Recently, he criticized the previous BJD government, claiming that Keonjhar district was neglected during its 24-year rule, and publicly praised the development work done in the area by Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi.
