Inspection of Erosion Control Measures in Bhojpur District
Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh, the Secretary of the Water Resources Department in Bihar, conducted an inspection today at the riverbank erosion control site in Jawanian village, located in the Shahpur block of Bhojpur district, near the Uttar Pradesh border. During his visit, he thoroughly reviewed the progress, quality of work, and preparations for the upcoming flood season. Engaging with local villagers, he gathered insights regarding their issues, suggestions, and expectations, while also obtaining feedback on the ongoing projects. The villagers expressed their satisfaction with the erosion control and conservation efforts, sharing the challenges posed by the continuous erosion of the Ganges River.
Officials reported during the inspection that approximately 1200 meters of erosion control work is being carried out to protect the villages of Gangapur, Bhusola, Nandpur, and Damodarpur (Jawanian) located on the right bank of the Ganges River. The administrative approval for this project amounts to ₹52.56 crores, and the work is currently in progress.
Dr. Singh instructed to expedite the ongoing projects, emphasizing the need to ensure the availability of all necessary resources, especially considering the sensitivity of the upcoming monsoon. He mandated that the erosion control measures be completed within the next month without compromising on quality and adhering to the set deadlines.
The Secretary stated that upon completion of this project, the villages of Gangapur, Bhusola, Nandpur, and Jawanian in the Shahpur block of Bhojpur district would receive effective protection from the Ganges River's erosion, safeguarding the local population and public assets. Senior engineers, executive engineers, and other departmental officials, along with local representatives, were present during the inspection.
