Bihar's Legislative Council Sees Potential New Appointments Amid Cabinet Changes
New Prospects for Bihar's Legislative Council
There are indications that Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the state's health minister, may be appointed to the Legislative Council. This news comes shortly after Samrat Chaudhary joined the cabinet. Additionally, Deepak Prakash, the son of Upendra Kushwaha, the leader of the National Lok Morcha, is also expected to secure a seat in the council. Notably, ten seats in the Bihar Legislative Council will become vacant in June, with nine members' terms ending on June 28. One seat has already been vacated due to Nitish Kumar's election to the Rajya Sabha. The announcement for the council elections is anticipated by the end of May.
Ceremony for New Ministers
In a grand event held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office to 32 leaders from the NDA as ministers. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior leaders from the BJP. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) raised questions regarding the positions of senior JD(U) leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Vijendra Prasad Yadav as deputy chief ministers in the Bihar government. The party pointed out discrepancies in two separate notifications issued by the Bihar Cabinet Secretariat.
Discrepancies in Notifications
According to the RJD, a notification released on April 15, the day Samrat Chaudhary took the oath as Chief Minister, mentioned both Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Vijendra Prasad Yadav as deputy chief ministers along with their assigned ministries. However, the party noted that a subsequent notification issued on May 7, following the cabinet expansion, only listed these leaders as ministers without any reference to their deputy chief minister roles.
