Doctor Arrested in Bihar Teacher Recruitment Exam Scandal

The Bihar Police have apprehended a doctor in connection with the alleged leak of the Bihar Public Service Commission's Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-3). The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of the state police reported that the doctor, hailing from Jehanabad district, was taken into custody during questioning on Monday. This brings the total number of arrests in this case to 296. According to the EOU, the investigation revealed that the doctor was linked to Sanjeev Kumar Singh, also known as Sanjeev Mukhiya, who is accused of being the main conspirator behind the NEET (UG)-24 paper leak, which is now under investigation by the CBI. Singh is also wanted in several other cases.

The agency alleges that the doctor was involved in a conspiracy to leak the TRE-3 exam paper and ensure candidate selection for a fee. It was reported that he promised to pay ₹50,000 for each candidate he facilitated. The EOU stated that just two to three days before the exam scheduled for March 15, 2024, he transported around 30 candidates from Patna to a hotel in Hazaribagh, where they were provided with the leaked question paper.

The BPSC conducted this competitive examination for recruiting teachers in primary and middle schools. The arrested doctor completed his MBBS at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital in Patna in 2021 and previously worked as a government doctor in Kaimur district. He later resigned from his government position and is currently preparing for postgraduate medical studies. This arrest is part of the ongoing investigation by the EOU into the TRE-3 paper leak case, which has seen a total of 296 arrests so far.
