Bihar Police Arrest Two Drug Smugglers in Major Heroin Bust

Patna, June 19: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, law enforcement officials from the Phalka police station in Katihar, Bihar, apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and confiscated 102.79 grams of heroin during a vehicle inspection.
One of the suspects, Sunil Kumar, claims to be the son of former Bihar Minister and MP Ramji Das Rishi, as reported by the police on Thursday.
Currently, Sunil Kumar works as a Rozgar Sevak in Forbesganj.
The second suspect, Khushilal Mandal, hails from Purnea district and has a history of incarceration related to drug smuggling offenses.
According to police reports, the vehicle inspection was conducted on the Nisundra-Gedabari road, overseen by Phalka Station House Officer (SHO) Prahlad Yadav, along with Sub-Inspector Amar Deep Singh and the Block Development Officer.
At approximately 7:50 a.m., officers attempted to stop a yellow motorcycle that lacked a visible registration number.
Upon seeing the police, the motorcycle rider allegedly attempted to escape, leading officers to encircle and apprehend both individuals.
A search, conducted in the presence of officials, resulted in the discovery of 102.79 grams of heroin in a bag reportedly carried by Sunil Kumar.
Additionally, police seized two mobile phones and the motorcycle utilized by the suspects.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sunil Kumar from Gokhlapur under Narpatganj police station in Araria district, and Khushilal Mandal (24) from Bhawanipur in Purnea district.
Authorities indicated that the confiscated narcotics have a market value of several lakhs of rupees.
An FIR has been filed under the applicable sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigators are currently working to trace the origin of the heroin shipment, its intended destination, and to ascertain if other members of a broader trafficking network are implicated.
SHO Prahlad Yadav stated that the district police will persist in their efforts against drug trafficking and associated criminal activities.
Both suspects have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
