Bihar Education Minister Reports Surge in Teacher Transfer Applications

Bihar's Education Minister Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari announced a significant influx of teacher transfer applications, with nearly 15,000 submissions recorded within two days of the portal's launch. The new transfer policy allows teachers to choose from 30 schools and aims to address teacher shortages in various districts. With a deadline set for August 5, the process is entirely voluntary, and surplus teachers will be strategically placed in schools where they are most needed. Significant Teacher Transfer Applications in Bihar

On Friday, Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari, the Education Minister of Bihar, announced that within just two days of the portal's opening for the transfer of surplus teachers under the adjustment and rationalization policy, a remarkable 14,796 teachers have submitted their applications online. The 'E-Shiksha Kosh' portal was launched on Wednesday to facilitate initial registration and allow teachers to indicate their preferred schools as per the newly notified 'Bihar State Teacher Transfer Rules, 2026.' Tiwari shared this information during a press conference in Patna, stating, "In just two days, 14,796 surplus teachers have voluntarily applied for transfers."

Additionally, 7,795 surplus teachers have filled out their applications on the portal but have yet to finalize their submissions. This brings the total number of teachers who have initiated the process to 22,591. Furthermore, 2,142 teachers have successfully applied for mutual transfers.

The Education Minister emphasized that the deadline for applying for adjustments and rationalization is set for August 5, and participation in this process is entirely voluntary.

Each applicant will have the option to select from 30 schools. Tiwari explained that female teachers will be assigned to schools near their registered home addresses in the panchayats, while male teachers will be placed in adjacent blocks outside their own. He noted that there are currently 65,413 surplus teachers for grades one to five, 9,471 for grades six to eight, 17,904 for grades nine to ten, and 14,500 for grades eleven to twelve, compared to the sanctioned positions.

Despite this surplus, Tiwari pointed out that districts like Araria, Jamui, and Purnia are still facing a shortage of teachers in primary schools. The deployment of surplus teachers will focus on schools experiencing teacher shortages. Remaining teachers will be assigned to Anganwadi centers, Scheduled Caste hostels, and the Karpuri Thakur hostels for Other Backward Class (OBC) students.

Under the new transfer policy, teacher transfers will occur every five years.
