Bihar CM Welcomes Inclusion of Maithili in CBSE Curriculum

Bihar's Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, has welcomed the Central Board of Secondary Education's decision to include Maithili in its curriculum starting from the 2026-27 academic year. He emphasized the importance of this move for Mithila's cultural identity and linguistic pride. Chaudhary described the initiative as historic and a significant step towards empowering the region's rich heritage. He believes this will help future generations connect with their roots and mother tongue, while also acknowledging the ongoing efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote Indian languages and cultures.
 

Significant Step for Maithili Language

The Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary, expressed his approval on Monday regarding the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) decision to incorporate Maithili into its curriculum. He stated that this move is a matter of pride for the cultural identity and linguistic heritage of Mithila.


Starting from the academic year 2026-27, CBSE will introduce Maithili as a subject at the secondary level.


In a post on the social media platform 'X', Chaudhary remarked, “The inclusion of Maithili in the CBSE curriculum from Class 1 to secondary level is a proud moment for the cultural identity and linguistic pride of Mithila.” He emphasized that this initiative is a historic and commendable step towards empowering Mithila's rich cultural heritage within the education system.


The Chief Minister further noted that this decision will provide Maithili with a new identity and respect, serving as a powerful means to connect future generations with their mother tongue, culture, and roots. He acknowledged that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, there has been a continuous strengthening of efforts to preserve and promote Indian languages, cultures, and traditions.
