Bihar CM Increases Social Security Pensions Ahead of Elections
Bihar Chief Minister's Initiative for Social Security
Patna, July 11: As the Assembly elections approach, Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has distributed social security pensions to 1.11 crore beneficiaries from his official residence in Patna, granting each recipient Rs 1,100 through various state welfare programs.
A total of Rs 1,227.27 crore was directly credited to the beneficiaries' accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha were also in attendance during this event.
Kumar noted, “Previously, we provided Rs 400 as a social security pension, which has now been raised to Rs 1,100 to assist widows, the disabled, and senior citizens through different government initiatives.”
Emphasizing his administration's commitment to women's empowerment, the Chief Minister highlighted the 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and the enhancement of their social standing.
“The condition of women has improved significantly; they now wear better clothing and live with dignity. Our government is dedicated to enhancing the living standards of all societal segments. Our focus is on ensuring respect and security for everyone, and we are persistently working towards this goal,” he added.
In a critique of the Opposition and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, Kumar stated, “In the past 20 years, they have made no significant contributions. Before 2005, there were efforts made; we mistakenly allied with RJD twice, but what have they achieved?”
He expressed optimism about a new political era in Bihar, asserting that progress would be a collective effort.
“We will not stray from our path in the future; we will unite for the state's development,” he remarked while addressing Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Kumar reaffirmed his dedication to women's advancement, stating that his government has implemented numerous crucial decisions and launched various schemes aimed at improving women's conditions in Bihar.
