The uncertainty surrounding Nitish Kumar's tenure as the Chief Minister of Bihar appears to be resolving. After being elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, Kumar is set to preside over his final cabinet meeting in Patna on April 8, before heading to New Delhi on April 9. In the capital, he will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss potential successors for his position.

Kumar, who has recently become a Rajya Sabha member for the first time in his 40-year political career, will take his oath on April 10. This achievement grants him the unique distinction of serving in all four legislative bodies: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Assembly, and Legislative Council. According to sources within the ruling party, he may return to Patna on April 11 and could resign from his role as the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar on April 12.

Insiders from the Janata Dal (United) have indicated that a meeting will be held with senior party leaders to discuss key issues before formal proceedings in the Rajya Sabha commence. This gathering will include prominent figures such as JD(U) Executive President Sanjay Kumar Jha and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh. A senior JD(U) leader mentioned that the meeting will address the formation of a new government in Bihar and the role of Nitish's son, Nishant Kumar, who joined the party on March 8.

The upcoming meeting is also expected to deliberate on the selection of a leader to succeed Nitish. State BJP leaders have made it clear that the decision regarding the next Chief Minister will be made after consulting with Nitish. However, there are strong speculations that the new Chief Minister will be from the BJP. This meeting is scheduled to take place at Nitish's residence in New Delhi amidst reports of his impending resignation, likely on April 12.
