Bihar BJP's Candidate Announcement
On Tuesday, Sanjay Sarawagi, the president of the Bihar BJP, revealed that all candidates from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will submit their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on March 5. The voting is scheduled for March 16, and the NDA is confident of securing victories across all seats. In an interview, Sarawagi stated that the NDA's candidates will file their nominations on March 5 and are expected to win all available seats.
Additionally, the BJP released its first list of candidates for the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, approving nine names from six states.
Official Candidate Selections
According to an official press release, this announcement was made by the party's central election committee from its headquarters in New Delhi. The party has selected Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar as candidates from Bihar. In Assam, Teraash Gowala and Jogen Mohan will represent the party, while Lakshmi Verma is the candidate from Chhattisgarh. Sanjay Bhatia has been chosen from Haryana, and Manmohan Samal along with Sujit Kumar will represent Odisha. Rahul Sinha has been selected from West Bengal.
Election Schedule and Details
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the voting for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections will take place on March 16, with counting starting at 5 PM on the same day and concluding by March 20. These elections will cover 37 seats across ten states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, with the current terms expiring in April 2026. The notification to initiate the election process was issued on February 26, with the last date for nominations set for March 5, scrutiny of nominations on March 6, and the final date for withdrawal of nominations on March 9.
