Bhopal, May 15: In a distressing turn of events, a 34-year-old woman has tragically taken her own life in Bhopal, prompting authorities to file charges against her husband and mother-in-law for dowry-related offenses.

Assistant Police Commissioner Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul confirmed that an FIR was registered at the Katara Hills Police Station late Thursday against Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh.

The charges include dowry death and harassment for dowry, reflecting the serious nature of the allegations.

Giribala Singh, who retired as a district judge in February 2023, and her son, an advocate at the District Court, are currently being sought by the police.

ACP Kaul stated that police teams are actively searching the residences and potential hideouts of the accused, although neither has been apprehended yet.

This legal action follows persistent protests from the family of the deceased, Twisha Sharma, who passed away on Tuesday.

Originally from Noida, Twisha was discovered hanging from a pipe on the terrace of her home in Laharpur on Tuesday night.

Her husband reportedly rushed her to AIIMS Hospital, where she was declared dead by medical staff.

Twisha had been married to Samarth Singh for six months, having met him through a dating app. She held an MBA and had previously worked in a Delhi-based company.

Her family has accused Samarth and his mother of murder and tampering with evidence, alleging that they staged the suicide to mislead the investigation.

For the past two days, Twisha's family and relatives have been protesting outside the Katara Hills Police Station, demanding justice against Giribala Singh and her son.

On Thursday, they gathered at the Women’s Police Station with placards, calling for immediate action and also created a disturbance at the Commissioner’s office.

Twisha’s brother, Harshit Sharma, who serves in the Army, expressed concerns that the police are hesitant to act due to the influence of the accused.
