Indian shooter Bhavtegh Singh Gill expressed his joy after clinching the bronze medal in the men's skeet team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. He described the experience of returning home with a medal from such a prestigious continental competition as truly special.

Alongside teammates Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Mairaj Ahmed Khan, Bhavtegh secured the bronze by overcoming Kazakhstan in a tense shoot-off on Wednesday.

A Memorable Achievement

In an interview, Bhavtegh reflected on the significance of this achievement, stating, "It feels incredible to bring a medal back for India. This being my first Asian Games, winning a medal here is an extraordinary experience."

Handling Pressure

Discussing the pressures faced during the competition, he noted that the team remained focused on their goal despite various challenges. "The pressure has been intense since day one. My initial performance wasn't ideal, but I aimed to secure a medal for the team, and it feels great that we succeeded today," he shared.

Looking Ahead

Bhavtegh expressed optimism about India's shooting team, anticipating more medals in upcoming events. "We have consistently won medals since the shooting events began—first in the women's 10m, then the men's 10m, and now in skeet. With many events still to come, including trap and 50m, I am confident our medal tally will increase," he stated.

Support from SAI and Khelo India

He also acknowledged the crucial role of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and its support programs in preparing athletes for international competitions. "Being part of Khelo India since 2018, the backing we receive—such as ammunition and financial assistance—has been vital for our success. This medal wouldn't have been possible without their support," Bhavtegh emphasized.

India's Skeet Medal Achievements

The Indian women's skeet team, consisting of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan, also made history by winning bronze in their event, marking India's first medal in this category at the Asian Games.

Men's Team Performance

The trio of Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill finished third in the men's skeet team event with a total score of 346 points. They were tied with Kazakhstan but secured the bronze after a successful shoot-off.
