Allegations Against Bengaluru Police Inspector

On March 25, a serious allegation surfaced involving a Bengaluru Police Inspector accused of harassing a woman with a history of criminal activity. The incident has sparked outrage, especially after audio recordings and messages of their conversations circulated widely on social media.

The inspector in question, Papanna, is affiliated with the Konanakunte police station. The woman has lodged a formal complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, seeking action against him.

According to her claims, previous complaints about Inspector Papanna have gone unaddressed. She stated, "He asserts that his wife is a close relative of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which makes him untouchable. Despite presenting evidence, the police have not acted against him, while they have pursued action against me."

The victim detailed her experience, saying, "Inspector Papanna has been sending me inappropriate messages on WhatsApp, expressing his affection and calling me 'very sexy.' These are just a few examples of his numerous messages."

She recounted that in 2016, he had requested her phone number during an inquiry, which she felt compelled to provide. Following that, he began sending her daily greetings. After discussing the messages with her husband, who advised her not to respond, the inspector escalated to sending lewd messages in February 2017. When she attempted to report him to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, she received threatening calls from him.

The woman further alleged that Papanna has threatened her husband, saying their children would be harmed. "For three months, he has persistently harassed me, even suggesting he would come to my home to cook for me and asking me to treat him as a friend. He openly boasts about his connections to the Chief Minister, claiming he is invulnerable. Despite being suspended twice, he quickly resumed his duties and is on track for a promotion to assistant commissioner of police," she stated.

She emphasized the need for accountability, stating, "If he is suspended, it will likely be reversed, allowing him to continue his exploitation of women. Many women are victims of his behavior. I hold an MBA and a PhD from an American university, and I find his messages repulsive."

The woman, who has a criminal background and was recently arrested under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act, 2000 (KCOCA) for her involvement in a kidnapping case linked to a prominent real estate businessman, is reportedly facing around ten cases across various police stations in Bengaluru.
