Bengaluru, April 22: A shocking development has surfaced in the murder case of a young man named Kiran, who was allegedly killed by his girlfriend, Prema. During police questioning, she confessed to the crime, authorities reported on Wednesday.
As per police reports, Prema revealed that she blindfolded Kiran, restrained him by tying his hands and legs to a bed, doused him in kerosene, and ignited him after he declined her marriage proposal and began to distance himself.
D.L. Nagesh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the North-West Division, stated that the case initially seemed like a suicide. However, further investigation revealed it to be a murder involving flammable liquids.
Kiran and Prema first met in August of the previous year. On Valentine's Day this year, Prema professed her love for Kiran, which he accepted. She had also planned to surprise him with a luxury bike and mobile phone valued at approximately Rs 4.5 lakh. On the day of the incident, they were seen together looking at a bike.
However, their relationship reportedly soured in recent months as Kiran began to pull away from Prema, causing her significant distress.
Investigators indicated that Prema had premeditated the crime, having purchased petrol and kerosene in advance. It is also believed she intended to take her own life following the act.
On the day of the incident, another argument erupted between them regarding marriage, leading her to tie him to the bed and set him ablaze.
Kiran succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to severe burns.
The Byadarahalli police have apprehended Prema and are continuing their investigation. They have also confiscated the materials used in the crime.
Authorities are looking into whether Prema acted independently or if others were involved in the incident.
It is noteworthy that the Karnataka Police had previously arrested Prema on charges of murdering her boyfriend after binding him and setting him on fire under the guise of a Western-style proposal.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bidadi Police Station, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on Tuesday.
Kiran, aged 27, and Prema were reportedly colleagues and had been in a relationship for several months.
