Ben Duckett Steps Back from IPL 2026

England cricketer Ben Duckett has opted out of his contract with Delhi Capitals (DC) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. This decision aims to ensure he is in optimal physical and mental condition for England's upcoming home summer matches. Duckett, who has yet to make his IPL debut, was acquired for ₹2 crore during the IPL 2026 auction held last December. He has chosen to prioritize his preparation for England's home summer, which features three Test matches against New Zealand in June, followed by another three Tests against Pakistan in August and September. Additionally, England will host India for five T20 matches and three ODIs in July.

Prioritizing England's Home Summer

In a recent Instagram story, Duckett shared that withdrawing from the IPL was a tough choice, made to ensure he is fully prepared for England's summer fixtures. He expressed, "I have made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from the IPL. This choice was not easy, as representing England has been a lifelong dream. To give my best, I must be in the best possible physical and mental state for the summer."

Apologies to Delhi Capitals and Fans

Duckett extended his apologies to the Delhi Capitals organization and their supporters for any inconvenience his withdrawal may cause. He expressed his disappointment at not being able to play for the franchise, stating, "I sincerely apologize to everyone at Delhi. I was genuinely excited about the chance to represent the franchise and understand the effort involved in squad formation. I regret any disruption my decision may create and apologize to all the fans who value this opportunity."
