Team India Update
Currently, the IPL 2026 is underway in India, and the players of Team India are fully engaged in the tournament. Following the IPL, these athletes are expected to return to represent India once again. After the IPL, several players are anticipated to join the national team based on their performances in the league.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Impressive Performance
In IPL 2026, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has played two matches and has showcased remarkable skills. Reports suggest that the BCCI is planning to reward him in collaboration with coach Gautam Gambhir after the IPL concludes.
BCCI's Strategic Planning with Gautam Gambhir
A source from the BCCI, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that, "Only players under 25 will be included in the Emerging Team, and they will also be part of the India A team for a 'shadow tour'. This roadmap will be prepared with full details for the senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir."
Upcoming Tours and Selection Process
The source further added, "After the IPL, both the Under-19 and Emerging (Under-25) teams will tour Sri Lanka for four-day matches. The selection of the team will be based on players' performances in the Antara-COE tournament."
BCCI's Selection of 64 Players for Team India
The plan involves selecting 64 cricketers who will then be divided into four teams of 16 players each. Each team will have the opportunity to play two four-day red-ball matches in the COE, with various pitch types provided for proper match practice. Out of these, 25 players will be chosen by the junior selection committee, while another 25 will be selected by the senior committee.
In addition to these 50 players, 14 others who are part of the IPL will also be included. Notable names among them are Mhatre, Suryavanshi, and Sameer Rizvi. If all these players remain fit and available, the list of 64 players will be finalized.
