Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has expressed strong optimism regarding Team India's chances in their upcoming semifinal match against England in the T20 World Cup 2026. Speaking on Wednesday, he stated, "I am very confident that Team India will win and secure a place in the final."

The defending champions, India, are set to face off against England, who have won the T20 World Cup twice, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India enters this crucial match following a commanding five-wicket victory over the West Indies in their last Super 8s encounter, which was essential for both teams as they were level on points. Meanwhile, England, captained by Harry Brook, arrives at the semifinal with an impressive streak of five consecutive wins in the tournament.


India's Journey to the Semifinal

Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India faced a challenging start in the Super 8s, suffering a significant 76-run defeat against South Africa. However, they rebounded strongly against the West Indies, thanks to a stellar performance by Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten 97 runs, leading India to a comfortable five-wicket victory and securing their spot in the semifinals.

In the match against the West Indies, India won the toss and chose to field first. Roston Chase contributed 40 runs off 25 balls, while captain Shai Hope added 32 runs. Despite a strong start, the West Indies faltered to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a quick 27 runs from Shimron Hetmyer. A late surge from Jason Holder (37* off 22 balls) and Powell (34* off 19 balls) helped the West Indies reach a total of 195/4 in their 20 overs.


Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, taking 2 wickets for 36 runs in four overs. Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya both had economical spells, conceding 40 runs each in their four overs.


During the chase, India faced early trouble at 41/2 but a crucial 58-run partnership between Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (18 runs) steadied the innings. Samson continued to build partnerships with Tilak Varma (27 runs off 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17 runs), and Shivam Dube (8*), leading India to a five-wicket victory.
