Bangladesh Players Fined for Code of Conduct Violations in ODI Against Sri Lanka
Fines Imposed on Bangladesh Players
In a recent match during the ICC Women's Championship series against Sri Lanka in Rajshahi, Bangladesh cricketers Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana were penalized 10% of their match fees for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
As per the statement from the ICC, Nahida was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5, which pertains to 'using language, actions, or gestures that could provoke an aggressive response from a batter after their dismissal in an International Match.' Meanwhile, Sarmin violated Article 2.8, which addresses 'showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an International Match.'
Details of the Violations and Consequences
Both players received one demerit point added to their disciplinary records, with neither having any prior offenses in the last two years. Nahida pointed towards the pavilion to send off Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu during the 17th over of the innings. Sarmin, after being given out LBW in the 16th over, displayed excessive disappointment by pointing to her bat before leaving the field.
The penalties were accepted by both players without the need for formal hearings, as they acknowledged their offenses. The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, along with third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy.
Understanding Level 1 Breaches
For those unfamiliar, Level 1 breaches can result in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
