Bangladesh Cricket Board to Nominate ICC Representatives Post-Election
BCB to Nominate ICC Representatives After Elections
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that it will nominate its representatives for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board and the ICC Business Corporation (IBC) Board only after the conclusion of its election process, which is set to finish on June 7.
Additionally, the BCB has indicated that an ICC delegation is anticipated to visit Bangladesh soon. This visit will involve discussions with key stakeholders related to the election process and gathering information to update the ICC Board, as stated in a media release from the BCB.
Formation of Election Commission by BCB
Earlier this month, the BCB revealed the establishment of an Election Commission tasked with overseeing the BCB Board of Directors Election 2026. This three-member commission will manage all election-related procedures in line with the board's regulations.
Ahsanul Karim, a Senior Advocate at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. The commission also includes Md. Israil Hawlader, the Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and A. B. M. Ehsanul Mamun, Deputy Secretary and Director of Planning & Development at the National Sports Council.
The BCB confirmed this development through an official media release from Dhaka, stating that the Election Commission will handle the administrative and procedural elements of the upcoming election for the cricket board's governing body.
Investigation into T20 World Cup Withdrawal
On Monday, the Bangladesh government established a three-member committee to investigate the decision to withdraw from the T20 World Cup. Mahbub Ul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, confirmed this over the phone.
Dr. AKM Oli Ullah, Additional Secretary of the Administration Wing at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will lead the committee, which also includes Habibul Bashar Sumon, a former National Captain and Chief Selector of BCB, and Barrister Faisal Dastagir, a Supreme Court Lawyer and sports organizer.
The committee's task is to analyze the reasons behind the decision not to participate in the tournament and assess any potential diplomatic or strategic failures. They have been instructed to submit a detailed report to the Ministry within 15 working days.
Prior to the tournament, the BCB had raised security concerns about playing in India and requested the ICC to relocate Bangladesh's matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC declined this request, citing no credible threats to the Bangladesh team in India. Consequently, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament after the BCB opted out of the scheduled matches. Following Aminul Haque's appointment as Minister for Youth and Sports, the government pledged a formal inquiry into this unprecedented withdrawal to ensure accountability.
