BCB Condemns Harassment of Nayeem Hasan
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has voiced its serious concern regarding an incident involving harassment directed at cricketer Nayeem Hasan by members of a law enforcement agency in Chattogram on Friday evening. In a media release, the BCB condemned the unacceptable behavior exhibited towards the player, emphasizing the need for immediate attention to this matter.
"The BCB calls for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the incident and urges the appropriate authorities to take necessary actions against those responsible," the statement read.
Since the incident came to light, the BCB has been in close communication with Nayeem Hasan and his family to ensure their safety and provide necessary support. The Board is also actively working with local authorities in Chattogram to ensure a proper resolution to this serious issue.
The BCB reaffirms its commitment to protecting the welfare, dignity, and rights of all its players and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Tamim Iqbal Elected as BCB President
Recently, former captain Tamim Iqbal was elected president of the BCB, solidifying his leadership role within the country's cricket governing body after previously heading its ad-hoc committee.
"Tamim was elected unopposed during a board meeting following the BCB elections held on Sunday, having received the highest votes in the Club Category," stated BCB official Rabeed Imam.
The newly elected board also appointed Fahim Sinha as vice-president. While two vice-presidents are expected to be named, only one has been announced by the Election Commission so far.
Tamim secured 73 votes in the Club Category poll at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, surpassing competitors Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khosru, who each garnered 72 votes.
In total, 16 candidates contested for 12 seats in the Club Category, while Amjad Hossain, Major Imroz, Faizur Rahman, and Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu were not elected. Major Imroz received the least votes, totaling 20, while Amjad managed 32.
