Bangladesh Aims for Series Victory After Dominating Win Over Australia
Bangladesh's Ambitious Goals
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the all-rounder from Bangladesh, is setting his sights on clinching a series victory following a commanding nine-wicket win against Australia in Darwin.
Impressive Performances Lead to Triumph
In a remarkable display on Sunday, Bangladesh Cricket achieved a significant milestone by defeating a fully-equipped Australian team. Key highlights included Hasan Mahmud's nine-wicket haul, Miraz's all-round contributions, and a historic century from Tanzid Hasan.
Miraz excelled with the bat, scoring 65 runs off 154 balls, which helped Bangladesh establish a first-innings lead of 228 runs. He later took five wickets, setting a modest target of just 57 runs, which Bangladesh successfully chased down with nine wickets remaining.
This victory positions Bangladesh for a rare 2-0 series win as they prepare to face Australia in Mackay for the second and final Test. Miraz expressed confidence in his team's ability to maintain their momentum, stating, "We are definitely aiming for the series win and will stay focused on our approach."
Team Spirit and Management Support
The win followed a disappointing performance against the Cricket Australia XI, where Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 54 runs in their second innings. However, Miraz noted that the team's management remained supportive throughout.
"During my struggles, our team manager, Nafis Iqbal, provided immense encouragement on how to adapt to these conditions," Miraz shared. "He even bowled to me in the nets, which was quite helpful."
"Mushtaq Ahmed from the management also played a crucial role. After our initial loss, he motivated each player, emphasizing the importance of belief in achieving victory. This encouragement helped us regain our confidence, and the results are evident today," he concluded.
Looking Ahead to the Mackay Test
The second Test is set to begin in Mackay on Saturday. A win for Bangladesh would elevate them above Australia in the World Test Championship standings, bringing them closer to a potential spot in the finals for the first time.
Series Schedule
First Test: Bangladesh won by nine wickets
Second Test: August 22-26, Mackay.
