In an extraordinary demonstration of grassroots power, the Baihna ward within the Mandi Municipal Corporation experienced a complete political withdrawal on Wednesday. All candidates officially exited the electoral race before the 3 PM deadline, effectively halting the election process in this ward.

Candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and independent factions submitted their withdrawal documents, following a mutual agreement forged over the previous two days, driven by persistent pressure from local residents.

Public Demand Takes Precedence

This unprecedented action follows a series of meetings among villagers, who collectively urged all candidates to withdraw in favor of a broader demand — the restoration of Baihna’s rural administrative status under the panchayat system.

Residents have consistently opposed Baihna's integration into the municipal corporation, asserting that the area retains its rural essence and that governance should reflect its true character.

Political Leaders Align with Community Consensus

BJP MLA Inder Singh Gandhi previously asserted that Baihna is primarily a rural area, and its incorporation into the municipal framework has faced opposition from the beginning. Respecting the collective agreement, the BJP candidate withdrew from the contest once others followed suit.

Senior Congress figure and former minister Prakash Chaudhary also aligned with the community's wishes, ensuring the Congress candidate's withdrawal as part of the consensus.

Independent candidate Krishna Bhanu confirmed that this decision was made after thorough discussions with residents, emphasizing that the unified stance aims to secure Baihna’s return to rural governance.

A Strong Message to Authorities

With no candidates remaining in the election, the Baihna ward election is now effectively postponed. This development is viewed as a significant assertion of public will, transcending political affiliations and compelling all parties to comply.

Observers believe this action sends a clear message to the authorities, urging them to reconsider the decision to include Baihna within the municipal corporation's jurisdiction.

As the situation unfolds following this unusual political event, all eyes are on the government's response, with residents anticipating concrete actions toward restoring Baihna’s rural status in the near future.
