Kohli's Fitness Preparations for England Series

Virat Kohli is currently at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence to undergo fitness assessments in preparation for the upcoming ODI series against England, which kicks off on July 14. He missed the previous home ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury sustained during the IPL final, where he scored an impressive unbeaten 75*.

Mhatre's Rising Career

Ayush Mhatre's IPL 2026 season with the Chennai Super Kings was cut short due to a hamstring injury. Before his injury, he was the leading run-scorer for the team, amassing 201 runs in six innings with an average of 33.50 and a strike rate of 177.87, including two fifties and a top score of 73.

In List A cricket, Mhatre has scored 458 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 65.42, featuring two centuries and a fifty. Kohli's Return and Performance Outlook

Virat Kohli is set to return to the ODI squad for the series against England, although his participation in all three ODIs will depend on his fitness. Given his history of quick recoveries from injuries, fans and chief selector Ajit Agarkar remain hopeful about his availability.

In the IPL, Kohli finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 675 runs in 16 innings with an average of 56.25 and a strike rate of 165.84, including one century and five fifties, with a best score of 105*.

Kohli's ODI Legacy

Kohli has transitioned to being an ODI-exclusive player, having retired from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup and from Test cricket in May 2022, prior to the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Since last year, he has scored 891 runs in 16 ODIs at an average of 68.53, including four centuries and five fifties, with a best score of 135. His performance has been pivotal in India's ICC Champions Trophy victory last year.
