The Austrian women's hockey squad has arrived in Hyderabad, Telangana, in preparation for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, as announced by Hockey India. This tournament will feature eight nations competing for three vital qualification spots for the prestigious event scheduled to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands this August.
Austria Aims for Historic Qualification
Austria boasts a notable history in the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup, having participated in three of the first four tournaments. However, they have not qualified for the main event since 1981. Under the leadership of Johanna Czech, Austria will face off against England, Italy, and Korea in Pool A, striving to make history by securing a qualification spot for the first time in 45 years.
Captain Shares Enthusiasm
The team captain expressed her excitement about the upcoming matches, stating, "This is our first visit to India, and we are thrilled to play some great hockey. Our preparation was brief, with only one training session, but we are committed to giving our all. We have additional training sessions lined up here before our matches, and we plan to leave everything on the field."

On the same day, the Indian Women's Hockey Team also arrived in Hyderabad, followed by the Scotland Women's Hockey Team, marking the start of their journey in this eight-nation tournament.
