In a remarkable display of skill, Australia defeated West Indies by 103 runs in the first ODI at Basseterre, setting a new record for Women's ODIs in the Caribbean. Phoebe Litchfield's impressive 77 runs and Stefanie Taylor's century were highlights of the match. With a total of 341 runs, Australia showcased their batting prowess, while Kim Garth led the bowling attack. The upcoming second ODI promises more thrilling action as Australia aims to continue their winning streak.
 

Australia's Historic Batting Performance

In a stunning display, Australia achieved a record total, defeating West Indies by 103 runs in the first ODI held in Basseterre on Saturday. Despite a commendable century from Stefanie Taylor, Phoebe Litchfield shone brightly with her score of 77 runs off 72 balls, which included nine fours and two sixes. The Australian team, after being put to bat first by captain Sophie Molineux, amassed a total of 341 runs, with five other players also scoring over 40 runs.


This score marks the highest-ever Women's ODI total recorded in the Caribbean, surpassing South Africa's previous record of 309/9 set against the West Indies last year, according to ICC statistics. Key contributions came from Nicola Carey (49 runs off 39 balls), Sophie Molineux (47 runs off 66 balls), Ellyse Perry (44 runs off 46 balls), Georgia Wareham (42 runs off 21 balls), and Georgia Voll (42 runs off 32 balls). For the West Indies, Afy Fletcher (3/83), Stefanie Taylor (2/31), and Deandra Dottin (2/54) were the standout bowlers.


Stefanie Taylor's Solo Effort in West Indies' Chase

During the chase, the West Indies batters started strong, but only Stefanie Taylor managed to make a significant impact, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off 129 balls, featuring 12 fours and a six. Other contributions included Chinelle Henry with 38 runs off 45 balls and captain Hayley Matthews with 22 runs off 33 balls. Ultimately, the West Indies were limited to 238 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.


Aussie Bowlers Shine in Victory

Kim Garth emerged as the leading bowler for Australia, taking 3 wickets for 37 runs. Georgia Wareham was named Player of the Match for her explosive 42 runs off just 21 balls and for claiming the wicket of Chinelle Henry during her impressive bowling spell of 1/39 over 10 overs.


The second ODI of the series is scheduled for March 29. Australia previously secured a clean sweep in the three-match T20I series, winning 3-0.
